APRIL
16  Monday - INDUSTRIAL STUDIES - "The story of Essex Aero Ltd", Frank Turner tells of this Company which was much involved in the development of magnesium alloys for use in aircraft, etc.

25  Wednesday - ARCHAEOLOGY - "Linking the Past: Experimental Archaeology at Butser", a talk by Steve Dyer, who is the Archaeological Director of Butser Ancient Farm.

26  Thursday - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - Followed after refreshments, by the Benefactors' Lecture, "The Crooked Valley's Flowers and its Natural History Society", to be given by Paul W. Sowan. David Sweet Hall, ECURC, 19:45.

30  Monday - LOCAL HISTORY/ARCHAEOLOGY - "Dealing with the dead - death and disposal in the nineteenth century", a talk by Peter Harp.

MAY
15  Tuesday - INDUSTRIAL STUDIES/GEOLOGY - "Practical Geology", an illustrated talk by Paul Sowan on how the geology of Surrey was mapped, often from industrial enterprises, and how geological knowledge assisted such enterprises.

21  Monday - LOCAL HISTORY/ARCHAEOLOGY - "Some medieval town houses in Britain", a talk by Anthony Quiney.

JUNE
11  Monday - INDUSTRIAL STUDIES / ARCHAEOLOGY / GEOLOGY - "Gravels, their economic exploitation, and their archaeological content", an illustrated presentation by Peter Harp and Paul Sowan.

18  Monday - INDUSTRIAL STUDIES - "The Portable Antiquities Scheme in Surrey", a talk by David Williams, the Finds Liaison Officer for Surrey.

27  Wednesday - GEOLOGY - "Fire and Ice", Mike Alexander returns to give another informed illustrated talk describing the fascinating geology and geomorphology of the volcanic island of Iceland.

JULY
9  Monday - INDUSTRIAL STUDIES / LOCAL HISTORY - "The Chislehurst Chalk Mines and their secondary uses", An illustrated talk on the results of his recent researches, especially into wartime uses of the 'caves', by Rod Le Gear of the Kent Underground Research Group.

AUGUST
20  Tuesday - GEOLOGY - "Minerals in Britain", a fully illustrated talk by Dr David Brook identifying the importance, extent and environmental impact of mineral workings in Britain.

SEPTEMBER
10  Monday - INDUSTRIAL STUDIES / LOCAL HISTORY - "Ratcatching", a return visit and illustrated talk by David R. Cuffley on some aspects of the economics and methods of ratcatching.

18  Tuesday - GEOLOGY - "George Bax Holmes (1802-1887) of Horsham". Early collector of Sussex Dinosaurs, protégé of Richard Owen and rival to Gideon Mantell. John Cooper describes Holmes' career and role in early dinosaur researches.

24  Monday - LOCAL HISTORY / INDUSTRIAL STUDIES - "Industries in Southwark, Bermondsey and Rotherhithe", a talk by Stephen Humphrey, Southwark's archivist.

OCTOBER
8  Monday - INDUSTRIAL STUDIES / LOCAL HISTORY - "The Mullard Radio Valve Company". An illustrated talk by Paul Sowan based on his father's unpublished reminiscences of the Balham and Mitcham factories, and researches into the history of thermionic valves and of the firm.

22  Monday - GEOLOGY - "Members evening". Bring specimens and photographs and hear short presentations.

29  Monday - LOCAL HISTORY / ARCHAEOLOGY - "Medieval and Tudor Coinage in England: c600 - 1603", a talk by Richard Kelleher of the Department of Coins and Medals at the British Museum.
