[A revised version of the list published as CBRS 38 (April 2000)]

The Society's atlas was issued in four instalments in 1936, 1938, 1942, and 1952, with one final sheet (51 Orthoptera) ten years later (1962). The first issue, dated 1936, included the hardback loose-leaf binder with gold titling and 20 other items, as listed in the Introduction to the first issue of sheets. The undated Introduction to the second issue of maps lists items in both issues including nine new sheets which were published in 1938, and a similarly undated Contents of the Atlas of Croydon, including the third issue of maps, etc. lists 33 items, including an additional eight items published in 1942. An additional seven sheets were issued in 1952, but without an accompanying complete list. A final item (51 Orthoptera) was published in 1962. Apart from the first issue of 1936, the Atlas sheets are undated. Dates of publication have been ascertained from the Society’s records.

At least one sheet (Harding’s 81 Growth of population map) is reproduced in L.B. Escritt’s Regional planning. An outline of the scientific data relating to planning in Great Britain (George Allen & Unwin Ltd., 1943.)

Description of items of the Regional Survey Atlas
Titles of individual Atlas items are given as they are printed on those items. Alternative versions of the titles used in the contents lists are given in italics. Titles or descriptions used in those lists themselves exhibit some variation - the 'list' title given is that from the first list in which the item appears.

Second issue 1938

During the year [1938] the second instalment of maps and letterpress for the Atlas of Croydon and District was issued to members entitled to them. This second issue consisted of -

Third issue 1942

The third instalment of Atlas material is now nearly finished. This Regional Survey provides opportunities for any member, whatever his scientific interests, to add to our records of the Croydon Survey Area, and it is hoped that more will come forward and give their assistance with this work, which is in accordance with the aims and traditions of the Society.
