A museum without walls - the Society's Tramlink project

During the past year the Society has been working, with Heritage Lottery Funding and support and sponsorship from the London Borough of Croydon, Nestlés, and Wates the Builders, to provide Croydon with a 'Museum without walls'. This will take the form of displays at selected Croydon tram stops, featuring local finds, and old maps and illustrations, relevant to the geology, archaeology, or local history of the area around each stop. This will allow the public to see images of some of the items in the Society's and Croydon Council's museum, archive and library collections, with accompanying explanatory text. It is expected that displays will be in place from March or April, and hoped that neighbouring London Boroughs and local societies might like to extend the display to tram stops in their own areas.

The Society is particularly grateful for assistance from Croydon's Local Studies and Museum services, to Nestlés and Wates for sponsorship, and to a team of members, especially Liz Malarkey, John Gent and Ken Woodhams, for their work on this project.
