Welcome to a new local history society in east Surrey … at Woldingham

It is good to be able to welcome a new Local History Society to our area. The Woldingham Local History Society has now flourished for about a year and proposes to work in liaison with the Bourne Society and ourselves. It is especially pleasing that the WLHS contemplates joining us as a Group Member, and that the new Society's intention is to make use of our Library for researching the history of Woldingham.

One Woldingham resource which could not be found anywhere else is our set of bound volumes of manuscript Diaries and Reports of the sometime Woldingham Natural History Society, which (more or less) flourished during the period 1907-1910. We evidently hold an incomplete set of that long defunct body's records, viz. :

  • Diary 1907
  • Diary IV 1909
  • Report II January-June 1909
  • Report III July-December 1909
  • Report IV January-April 1910

Presumably, somewhere, there are 'Diaries' at least for 1908 and 1910, and at least a Report I. It would be good to track these down! Even to research the circumstances in which these five volumes came into our library (anybody feel like reading pre-World War I Council minutes in various styles of handwriting?). Did we receive an incomplete set, or have we ourselves lost some volumes along the way?
